Meet the Muslim Legal team

Hassan Shibly, a Syrian American immigrant, is an internationally recognized civil rights attorney and non-profit consultant with over a decade of advocacy experience.

He is the founder of Muslim Legal, a boutique law firm focused on helping American Muslims find faith-based solutions to their legal needs. Before that he served for a decade as executive director of CAIR-FL, the largest Florida Muslim civil rights organization, helping it grow into one of the largest American Muslim civil rights organizations in the country.

His work has focused on protecting the American Muslim community from FBI harassment, profiling, informant recruitment and entrapment; from CBP and TSA profiling and detention; and on protecting prisoners' rights and assisting victims of the US war on terror. He does so through direct pro bono representation, public speaking, media engagement, lobbying and political advocacy.

He is not afraid to take on controversial cases and speak truth to power. He has also established a traditional Islamic education publishing company and Help Yateem USA, a non-profit focused on empowering orphans in Africa.

Abdelrahman Zeini is an attorney based in Orlando, Florida, with over 18 years of experience across real estate, corporate law, estate planning and trusts. He graduated magna cum laude from Florida A&M University College of Law and holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from the University of Florida.

His work includes structuring real estate transactions, advising corporate clients on governance, mergers and compliance, and guiding clients through estate planning and trusts. His understanding of Shariah principles has made him a trusted advisor in Islamic finance, where he has facilitated Shariah-compliant financing.

He serves as an adjunct professor and as a Florida Lemon Law Arbitrator, and holds dual credentials as a licensed real estate broker and realtor.

Sharif Elkalbani is a practicing attorney in the state of Florida. He has a passion for vindicating injured people and has focused his litigation practice on personal injury cases.

Adham A. Yennes is the principal attorney at Yennes Law, PLLC, and is licensed to practice law in Florida. He practices in landlord-tenant law, real estate and intellectual property, and provides general counsel services to businesses managing legal risks and obligations.

His focus is contract law, with nearly a decade of experience drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts.

Kimberly Noe-Lehenbauer is a federal civil rights litigator focused on First Amendment violations and discrimination. She has litigated complex cases in federal courts across the country on free speech and protest rights, religious accommodation and discrimination in public schools, and the rights of incarcerated people, as well as challenges to state anti-BDS laws and the federal terrorist watchlist.

She brings years of litigation experience at a national civil rights organization, and writing and investigative skills from a previous 20-year career in community journalism.

Zanah Ghalawanji is a labor and employment attorney. She handles employment discrimination and retaliation, religious and disability accommodation requests, employment investigations and First Amendment workplace issues.

She is committed to advocating for workers whose rights have been violated, and recognizes the stress that comes with losing a livelihood because of injustice. Her advocacy for her clients has been featured in CNN, the Huffington Post, the Associated Press, the Washington Post and Al Jazeera, among others, and she was named one of Arab America's 40 Under 40 emerging leaders.

Originally from Michigan, she earned her law degree from Wayne State University Law School. She is a Syrian native and is fluent in Arabic.

Ashraf W. Nubani leads the immigration practice at Muslim Legal, with over 25 years of legal experience. He is admitted to practice law in Virginia and New York, and in several federal courts. His work spans family-based petitions, employment visas, asylum cases, deportation defense and naturalization. He is fluent in Arabic and English.

He holds a master's degree in history and has a background in Islamic religious leadership, which informs his understanding of the cultural and religious considerations that matter to clients.
